What would it be like if we lived in a surveillance society? The theatre adaptation of George Orwell´s novel “1984”, which was published in 1949, explores a potential answer to that question. However, the results are frightening and bleak.

The classes 1BK and 2BK spent a winter morning watching the play, which was outstandingly performed by the “American Drama Group”. As the show went on, our students came to the realization what living under surveillance like that would be like: constant pressure to do “the right thing”, even if it is morally wrong, never being able to trust anyone, threat of violence, as well as dealing with misinformation and censorship.

Overall, it was a unique performance that for sure made us think and broaden our horizons.
